Purnea University, Purnea

Purnea University, Purnia which was carved out of Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura on 18th March 2018 by an act of Bihar Assembly which was notified in Bihar Gazette (Ashadharn) on 17th August 2016 under Bihar State University Act (BSU ACT 1976) amended under Bihar Act 23, 1976 and called the Bihar State Universities Amendment Act 13, 2016. The nomenclature ‘Purnea University’ has sprung from the name of the Purnea district itself. Purnea University is formed to cater to the needs of higher education of Purnea Division spread over four districts namely Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj and Katihar.

Magadh University

Magadh University is a public state university and institution of higher education in Bodhgaya, Bihar, India. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).The university is governed by the Bihar State University Act 1976.It provides facilities for higher learning and research in the faculties of science, social sciences, humanities and commerce. Magadh University was split in 2018 and another university i.e. Pataliputra University came into being which covered under its jurisdiction all colleges located within the geographic area of Patna and Nalanda district that were earlier under Magadh University.

Patna University

Patna University is a public state university in Patna, Bihar, India. It was established on 1 October 1917 during the British Raj. It is the first university in Bihar and the seventh oldest university in the Indian subcontinent in the modern era. It offers different undergraduate and postgraduate degree level courses.Patna University was established by an Act of the Imperial Legislative Council passed in September 1917. It started the journey in October 1917 as an affiliating and examining body when JG Jennings took charge of this university as the first vice-chancellor.

Munger University, Munger

Munger University is a state university that came into existence on 18 March 2018 under the Bihar State Universities Act, 2016. It was established on 18 March 2018 after bifurcation of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur. The university started operating academically from the 2018–19 academic year, with campus spread over 25 acres of land near New Police Headquarter Munger.

Patliputra University, Patna

Patliputra University (PPU) is a collegiate public state university located in Patna, Bihar, India. It was established by an act of the state legislature in 2018. As a collegiate university, its main functions are divided between the academic departments of the university and affiliated colleges. The university is headquartered in Patna and administratively operate from Magadh University branch office on Kankarbagh , whilst, its permanent campus will be located at Beur.

Veer Kunwar Singh University, Ara

Veer Kunwar Singh University was established on 22 October 1992 with its headquarters at Arrah, under the Bihar University Act 1976. It is named after Kunwar Singh, the well-known national hero and distinguished freedom fighter of 1857. It is in the list of recognized universities under  U.G.C. Act.

T.M.Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur

Tilka Majhi Bhagalpur University, formerly Bhagalpur University, is a public university in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. It was established on 12 July 1960, having local colleges initially associated with Patna University. Its campus is around 264 acres (1.07 km2) in area. The name was changed from Bhagalpur University to Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in 1991 in commemoration of Tilka Majhi, a freedom fighter.

Bihar Animal Science University, Patna

Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) has been established with its headquarters at Patna through an act of Bihar State ,notified in the Bihar Gazette on 29 August 2016. The University became operational from 13 June 2017 with the appointment of it’s first Vice Chancellor. The new University has been carved out of the Bihar Agricultural University as two of its constituent colleges at Patna viz. Bihar Veterinary College and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology have been transferred to the BASU, whereas a new College of Fisheries has been established in 2018. To further expand the horizon of the University and strengthen the research and outreach, following research institutes, stations and substations are being transferred to BASU.

Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour

Bihar Agricultural University is an autonomous institute under Bihar state government established on 5 August, 2010 under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is situated at Sabour, Bhagalpur district of Bihar. It is located at present at Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour Campus, the oldest and agricultural college of the state.Bihar Agriculture University is engaged in Research and Extension activities in the field of agriculture. In order to extend the research done in the University to farmers of Bihar, it signed an agreement with World Development Foundation, New Delhi to implement a project of Agriculture Knowledge Dissemination System.

Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna

Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU Patna) is a collegiate public state university  located in Mithapur, Patna, Bihar, India. It was named after the Indian astronomer Aryabhatta.It is recognised and approved by AICTE. It is a statutory requirement for colleges offering any program in engineering, medical or technology in the state to be affiliated with the university.

Nalanda Open University, Patna

Nalanda Open University (NOU) is a university at Patna in Bihar state, India. It is the only university in Bihar providing education through distance and open education. Nalanda Open University Degree/Diploma /Certificates are eligible for higher studies, public & private sector employment and service promotions. It is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC).  It is an open university which means that it follows an open-door academic policy and is open to everyone for admission with minimum requirements.It is the second largest open university in India after Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

MMH Arabic &Persian University, Patna

Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University (MMHAPU) is a state university in Patna, Bihar, India. The university was established under the provisions of the Bihar State Universities Act of 1976, which took effect on 10 April 1998.MMHAPU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi as of December 2009. The University started its first academic session in July 2008.The university has more than 100 Knowledge Resource Centres.  It offers PG Semester System courses in English, Urdu, Persian, journalism, mass communication, and education.

L.N.Mithila University,Darbhanga

The Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), formerly Mithila University, is a public university in India. Began in 1972, the university initially functioned from the Mohanpur House at Sara Mohanpur village of Darbhanga-Sakri route. In 1975, it was shifted to the campus belonging to Raj Darbhanga.The university is in Darbhanga town, Mithila, an ancient cultural region of North India lies between the lower range of the Himalayas and the Ganges river. The university imparts education in fields such as humanities, social science, life science, commerce, and medicine, with both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

K.S.D. Sanskrit University, Darbhanga

Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSDSU) is a state university located in Laxmishwar Vilas Palace, also known as Anand Bag in Darbhanga, Bihar, India, dedicated to the teaching and promotion of Sanskrit.KSDSU was established in 1961, with the scholar Umesh Mishra as its first Vice-Chancellor. The then Education Minister of unified Bihar, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, announced the instigation of the university. Kameshwar Singh donated his ancestral Anand Bagh Palace to the government of Bihar as a university for the promotion of Sanskrit. Currently, this palace is the head office of the university.

B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, formerly Bihar University, popularly known as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU), is a public university located in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, India.It was established in 1960, It offers education from undergraduate to postgraduate and research level, as well as Distance education. It is named after B. R. Ambedkar, social reformer and the architect of Indian Constitution.

B.N. Mandal University, Madhepura

Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University (B. N. Mandal University) is the state government university situated at district headquarters, Madhepura. B. N. Mandal University, Madhepura came into existence on the 10th of January, 1992. It acts as an affiliating institution and offers undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs through its constituents, affiliated colleges, and institutes in Madhepura and nearby cities. The university conducts various vocational and technical courses in Science, commerce, and arts and also in engineering and Medical science.

Jai Prakash University,Chapra

Jai Prakash University (JPU) is a state university located in Chhapra, Bihar, India. It was established by the Government of Bihar in response to the needs of the people of Saran commissionary. The university was named in memory of freedom fighter Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan. The university is recognised by the UGC as a state university and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, having jurisdiction over the Saran Division, comprising the three districts of Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj.
